Johnson Fastest In Practice

JOLIET, Ill. - Jimmie Johnson turned the fastest lap at 184.150 mph in his Lowe's Chevrolet to lead the first practice session for this weekend's Tropicana 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. Johnson has one Winston Cup start at Chicago, he finished fourth after starting 37th in last year's event, he also won the inaugural Busch Series event at Chicagoland in 2001. Johnson's teammate Jeff Gordon took the second spot in practice, with Tony Stewart, Joe Nemechek and Casey Mears rounding out the Top 5. 1st Practice Speeds | Qualifying Order

Hamilton Jr. Fastest in Busch Series Practice
Bobby Hamilton Jr. led the first practice for Saturday's Tropicana Twister 300 with a lap of 180.959 mph in the Team Marines Ford. David Reutimann, Casey Mears, Tony Raines and Johnny Sauter rounded out the Top 5. 1st Practice Speeds

Keller Set to Pull Double Duty?
Busch Series driver Jason Keller will attempt to qualify for the Tropicana 400 today driving the No. 81 Kraft Chevrolet for DEI/Chance 2. Keller, who has one top-five and two top-10 finishes in two Busch Series starts at Chicagoland, tested his Cup car last month at the track. Keller was 12th in the first Busch Series practice.

Elliott and Mayfield Set to Roar at Kansas
Today Evernham Motorsports announced they will run "The Lion King" on both the No. 9 of Bill Elliott and No. 19 of Jeremy Mayfield at Kansas Speedway October 3-5. Elliott's Dodge Intrepid will feature the character of Simba and Mayfield's No. 19 will have Timon and Pumbaa along for the ride.

Earnhardt Jr. to appear at MLB All-Star game
Dale Earnhardt Jr. will run the Major League Baseball paint scheme this weekend in conjunction with the All-Star game festivities next week in Chicago. On Monday Junior will sign autographs and visit with baseball fans at 2:30 at the MLB FanFest at McCormick Place. Afterwards he will be attending the Batting Practice and the CENTURY 21 Home Run Derby at U.S. Cellular Field.

Drivers to Run Special Paint Schemes
Along with Earnhardt Jr. many Winston Cup drivers will be running special paint schemes this weekend some include: Elliott Sadler-M&M's Groovy Summer, Kurt Busch-IRWIN Industrial Tools, Steve Park-AOL/Kraft, Jeff Green-Pennzoil Synthetic, Ryan Newman-Mobil 1, Terry Labonte-Got Milk?, Mike Wallace-USG/Sheetrock, and Rusty Wallace-Miller Time Live/Goo Goo Dolls.

Punky QB Goes Racing
Ex-Chicago Bear quarterback will go for a ride with Wally Dallenbach around the 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway for a taping of "Wally's World" to be aired Sunday during the pre-race festivities on NBC.
