New Track Surface Mystery For Schrader

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – With a new surface, Kenny Schrader and the “M&M’s”® Racing Team weren’t sure what to expect when it tackled Martinsville Speedway on Friday.

The racing surface at the .536-mile race track has recently been ground. The changes made the track slicker than usual, but the No. 36 was able to score the 25th starting position.

Schrader turned a lap of 91.593 miles per hour (20.674 seconds) at the Virginia short track. Rookie-of-the-year contender Ryan Newman will start from the pole after turning a quick lap of 92.837 miles per hour (20.397 seconds).

“I got into the corner a little too hard on my lap, but I don’t think that it hurt us too badly,” Schrader said. “We’ll have to see how we do in practice, but I expect that we will be pretty good on Sunday.”
