However, the unrelenting sun on the white concrete at Dover International Speedway helped to slow down Schrader and the entire field of cars during qualifying.
Schrader will line up 27th for Sunday’s race after turning a lap of 23.285 seconds (154.606 miles per hour) at the one-mile concrete track. Veteran Rusty Wallace scored the pole with a quick lap of 22.956 seconds (156.822 miles per hour).
“We got a little too loose in qualifying today,” Schrader said. “We had a really good lap going in turns one and two, but I wiggled a little bit too much in three and four and that hurt us on our lap. The car was really good in practice today though, and I expect that we will have a pretty solid car for the race on Sunday.
The MBNA American Heroes 400 will start on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The race can be seen on TNT or heard on MRN.
