Ken Schrader’s Thoughts On Indianapolis Motor Speedway
“I really like going to Indianapolis – I like the track and I like the race. The track has a lot of tradition and a lot of history, and I think that it is pretty cool for us to go there and be a part of that. You hear people complain that you don’t see a lot of racing at Indy, and that we really don’t have the opportunity to showcase what we can do on the track. But to be honest, you don’t see that kind of racing at Darlington or Martinsville either. I always look forward to the Brickyard.”

“M&M’s”® Racing At Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The “M&M’s”® Racing Team tested for the Brickyard 400 on July 9-10. Crew chief Newt Moore said the two-day test session was very helpful to the No. 36 team. The team picked up more than one second over their qualifying speed at Indianapolis in 2001.

“We had a great test,” Moore said. “Usually you leave Indy after the test just kind of scratching your heads, trying to figure out how it helped you. But we left knowing that we can come back and get a top-10 or a top five, and that makes you feel good.”

Ken Schrader just can’t seem to get enough time behind the wheel. The 18-year veteran will have another busy weekend in Indianapolis. Schrader will substitute for the injured Danny Lasoski in the IROC series this weekend at the Brickyard. Schrader will also play the role of car owner at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Thursday and Friday. Schrader is co-owner of a USAC car driven by Bentley Warren in Thursday’s race, and his Schrader Racing truck will be piloted by Mike Wallace on Friday night.

Ask Ken Schrader, and he’ll tell you that Indianapolis Motor Speedway has a special place in his heart because it is where his self-proclaimed “best wreck of his career” happened. In 1983, Schrader was attempting to qualify for the 1983 Indianapolis 500. Schrader, an open-wheel champion, wrecked the only car his team had during practice and spoiled the team’s chances of making the show. Schrader credits that fateful day for sending him to the world of stock car racing. The wreck seems to have paid off for Schrader, as he will make his 544th consecutive Winston Cup start this weekend.
