The Winner Is Purple

The votes have all been counted, and it’s now official. Purple is the newest color to join the famous “M&M’s”® mix, and it’s now the newest color car in the “M&M’s” Racing Team’s stable.

Voters in more than 200 countries selected which color - purple, pink or aqua - would join the famous candy mix as part of “M&M’s” GLOBAL COLOR VOTE(tm). While chocolate lovers around the globe were choosing which color they wanted to add to the “M&M’s” mix, NASCAR fans were debating which color car they wanted to see driver Kenny Schrader pilot around a high-banked, short track.

In a special one race paint scheme in honor of the GLOBAL COLOR VOTE and the newest color in the “M&M’s” mix, Schrader will slide behind the wheel of a purple No. 36 car at Bristol Motor Speedway in August. He’ll also be sporting a purple uniform.

“The people have spoken,” Schrader said. “I was really excited when “M&M’s” told me they would be using the No. 36 car as part of the GLOBAL COLOR VOTE promotion. I think people really got behind the idea of picking a new color race car and uniform for me.

“I know there are going to be a lot of folks in the garage who are disappointed because they really wanted to see me in that pink uniform - especially Darrell Waltrip. But I have to admit, I’m happy to drive a purple car in August.”

More than 10 million people cast their vote via phone, mail and through the World Wide Web as part of “M&M’s” largest promotion ever. After months of sampling the choices in specially marked bags, the world chose purple - with 41 percent of the vote. Aqua received 38 percent of the vote, and pink garnered 19 percent of the vote. The remaining two percent of the vote went to various write-in colors.

Beginning in August, purple will be added to the current blend of red, yellow, orange, green, blue and brown in “M&M’s” bags.

Schrader, for one, is excited about his new paint scheme.

“I think a purple No. 36 will look pretty sporty on the track during the night race,” Schrader said. “There’s a lot of excitement and fan fare that comes with Bristol, and I think the purple “M&M’s” car will be a huge hit. Since purple has already been crowned THE GLOBAL COLOR VOTE champion, the “M&M’s” Racing Team is hoping to give purple another victory in August.”
