No. 36 Qualifies 36Th

BROOKLYN, Mich. - A beautiful morning turned into a rainy afternoon at Michigan International Speedway for the Winston Cup series’ latest visit to the two-mile track. Drivers and crew members waited out a one-hour, 48-minute rain delay Friday before the “M&M’s”® Pontiac got a chance to make its qualifying run.

The pole winning driver was four-tenths of a second faster than in practice, as was driver Ken Schrader and the No. 36 “M&M’s”® Pontiac. Schrader’s time, although a significant pickup from practice, was still only quick enough to be 36th on the time sheet.

“I may have wiggled just a little bit in one of the turns, but the car felt really good during the lap,” Schrader said. “But even the car was good, we were going to need six-tenths just to be part of the crowd. Races at Michigan always seem to come down to fuel mileage and race strategy anyway, so even starting 36th, I think we’ll be OK.”

Dale Jarrett, winner last week at Pocono, won the pole for Sunday’s Sirius Satellite Radio 400, which will air live on FOX at 1 p.m.
