Most Colorful Fan To Be Chosen In Vegas

It started with thousands of colorful race fans who poured into tracks across the country every weekend for a taste of speed.

There were race fans who painted their bodies, and fans who were decorated from head to toe in the colors of their favorite team. There were fans who dressed up with wild wigs and colorful creations, and fans who screamed out for attention.

Every week, the colorful fan patrol narrowed the thousands of colorful and exciting fans down to just 12, then voters chose their favorite on an internet web site, www.colorfulfan.com.

And now, there are nine original, creative and flashy NASCAR® fans who will compete for the ultimate title and bragging rights as THE MOST COLORFUL FAN(tm) OF NASCAR®. The winner will be crowned on Sunday morning in hospitality village prior to the green flag falling on the UAW Daimler Chrysler 400.

"It sure was a hard job to narrow down those colorful fans to the nine finalists," said Red, "M&M's"® spokescandy and self-proclaimed NASCAR® fan. "Yellow and I had to bust our candy shells every weekend as we searched for the best of the best. But it was so much fun hanging out with all those fans.

"I'm just glad that we don't have to be the judges for the final competition. There are all kinds of colorful NASCAR® fans, and it's not going to be easy to say which fan is the flashiest one of all.

"I did learn one thing this season though - NASCAR® fans are the best fans in the world, and the fans that are competing for the MOST COLORFUL FAN® title prove that."

The nine finalists for THE MOST COLORFUL FAN(tm) title will enjoy a full weekend in the country's most colorful city before heading to Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday morning for their final competition.

That morning, a panel of celebrity judges from the motorsports media and NASCAR will choose the flashiest fan of the group and crown him or her THE MOST COLORFUL FAN(tm) OF NASCAR®.

But like Red said, the competition will be fierce and the judges' decision will not be easy. Just take a look at the finalists from which the judges will have to choose:

  • Douglas Stevens of Port Orange, Fla., was chosen at Daytona International Speedway in February. With his bright "M&M's"® garb, Douglas hoped Kenny Schrader would outmuscle the competition.

  • Cali Johnson of Minot, N.D., was spotted at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March. Cali didn't just wear the bright colors of the "M&M's"® Racing Team, she also carried them. Cali just wanted to cheer on the No. 36 team.

  • Vincent Wirth of Burlington, N.J., waved the checkered flag and the flag of the No. 24 team as he walked around Martinsville Speedway. That's how this 'Rainbow Warrior' caught the eye of the Colorful Fan Patrol.

  • Elizabeth Dickel of Woodland, Calif., showed she has what it takes to be one of Jeff Gordon's 'Rainbow Warriors' at California Speedway. There's no doubt who Elizabeth was hoping would roll into victory lane, and the Colorful Fan Patrol took quick notice of her devotion to the team. Elizabeth was decked out in the colors of the No. 24 team from her hat to her socks.

  • Craig Luther of Columbia City, Ind., had one thing in mind when he came to Michigan International Speedway - a victory by his favorite driver Jeff Gordon.

  • June O'Hara of Brick, N.J., was hard to miss at Pocono Raceway in July. From head to toe, June looked like she belonged out on pit road with the "M&M's"® pit crew. Complete with yellow jeans, "M&M's"® sneakers and a No. 36 race day shirt and hat, June was a bright and easy target for the Colorful Fan Patrol as they searched for the most creative fans.

  • Russ Grefe of Athens, Wis., showed his support for 'the Tide Ride' at Bristol Motor Speedway early on in the season. Russ was one of the brightest fans around, and he was quickly located by the Colorful Fan Patrol as he proudly wore the vibrant orange and blue colors of the Tide Machine.

  • Phillip Crosson Jr. of Hopatcong, N.J., not only cheered for the No. 36 "M&M's"® Racing team - he went as far as to become an "M." Phillip proved his dedication to Schrader and the "M&M's"® team by his outfit. He proudly strutted around Richmond International Raceway in his Red "M" costume for not just one, but two days.

  • Gene Siglock of East Alton, Ill., caught the attention of many fans with his bright red pants and his unique Jeff Gordon jacket. At Kansas Speedway, fans stopped Gene to ask where they could find a jacket like his. Gene just laughed - the jacket is a one-of-a-kind. He bought the jacket, but he has added to it each Winston Cup season.

"Wow! Just look at that list of colorful fans," said Red. "That sure is an interesting group of NASCAR® fans, and I don't know how anybody is going to be able to pick just one to win THE MOST COLORFUL title. I would say it is going to be quite a battle to determine just who will be named THE MOST COLORFUL FAN(tm).

"I'm counting the days until Las Vegas though because I can't wait to see all the unique and colorful outfits our contestants will wear. And I'm even more excited to see who will be named THE MOST COLORFUL FAN(tm) OF NASCAR®.

"It's going to be quite an exciting weekend, and we hope that all our friends out there in the NASCAR® community are as excited about the big day as we are."
