Mms Renews With MB2

Who says there’s no loyalty between sponsors and teams in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series these days?

M&M/MARS, which has sponsored Winston Cup cars fielded by MB2 Motorsports since 1997, has extended its agreement with MB2 and driver Ken Schrader to sponsor its Pontiacs through the 2002 season, with its “M&M’s Chocolate Candies Brand.”

“Being a part of NASCAR, specifically with MB2 and Kenny Schrader, has been a great asset to the ‘M&M’s Brand,’” said John King, national sponsorship manager for M&M/MARS. “We’ve got the most colorful car on the track as well as a candid and colorful driver in Ken Schrader.

“Continuing with MB2 and Kenny next year adds a consistency factor to our program that is vitally important to our customers and fans. We’re glad to have Ken in the ‘M&M’s Pontiac.’ Additionally, the characters could not be more excited. Red, Yellow and Green are looking forward to their spot on the No. 36 ‘M&M’s” Pontiac with Kenny at the wheel.”

MB2 Motorsports debuted in the Winston Cup Series in ’97 with driver Derrike Cope, in the No. 36 Pontiac, which featured M&M/MARS’ SKITTLES brand candies. That paint scheme remained on the car the following year with driver Ernie Irvan, until M&M/MARS decided to switch gears and market “M&M’s” on MB2’s Winston Cup car.

Schrader came on board with MB2 in 2000, finishing 18th in the Winston Cup points standings. The veteran driver is 18th in the points again this season with five top-10 finishes and will enter his 18th season in the Winston Cup Series.

“From a sponsorship standpoint, these have been two of the best years of my career,” Schrader said. “My kids have certainly enjoyed having all the ‘M&M’s they can eat. It makes our house a popular one in the neighborhood.

“MB2 is a great organization and I’m glad to be back with them for another season. All three of our owners and General Manager Jay Frye have put together a great organization. The team has made leaps and bounds from its inception in 1997, and ‘M&M’s’ has been right there with them every step of the way. We’re holding our own, but I know we have the potential to be better and we’re working hard for that every week.”

MB2 Motorsports fields the No. 36 team for Schrader and the No. 10 Pontiac for Johnny Benson, in a joint venture, called MBV Motorsports, with sponsor Valvoline.

“M&M/MARS has been part of MB2 Motorsports since its inception and I’m proud to continue the relationship,” said Read Morton, one of the trio of team owners for both MB2 and MBV Motorsports. “We’ve been partners since Day 1 and we look forward to the future and good things for this race team.”
