Schrader's Thoughts On His 500th Start
"What does 500 starts mean to me? I guess it means I've been doing this a long time and that I'm getting old. I hope I can make 500 more. I don't know if I'll make that many more, but it gives me something to shoot for. It sounds like a pretty big number, but I always have fun racing and I'll continue to have fun racing. Right now I'm having a lot of fun racing with the "M&M's"® Racing Team. I'm really pleased with how we are running right now.

"Even more important is how this team is working together. Newt and every single person on the "M&M's"® Team is giving me exactly what I want and I love it. We're qualifying good, we're practicing good and we're running good. I'm having a lot of fun right now and I think the ream would tell you the same thing."

Schrader's Martinsville Highlights
  • This Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Martinsville Speedway "M&M's"® Racing Team driver Ken Schrader will become only the 22nd driver in Winston Cup history (1949-present) to make 500 career Winston Cup starts. His streak began on July 14, 1984 in Nashville, Tenn., in a car owned by Elmo Langley. Schrader will make his 500th consecutive start at Dover on June 3, 2001.

  • In four starts since Newt Moore has taken over crew chief duties for the "M&M's"® Racing Team, the No. 36 Pontiac has had an outstanding record. Discounting an early accident at Bristol, the team has finished eighth at Atlanta, 13th at Darlington and 10th at Texas.

  • Schrader is pulling double duty this weekend at Martinsville Speedway, making his first start in 2001 driving a Ken Schrader Racing entry.
