Kelley Earns Dash Pole

DAYTONA BEACH – Derrick Kelley, driver of the No. 07 Discount Auto Parts Pontiac, grabbed the pole position for Saturday’s season-opening NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series AC Delco 200 with a fast lap of 163.482 mph at Daytona International Speedway Thursday.

“I guess we’re a little bit surprised with getting the pole,” said Kelley, a native of Lakeland, Fla. We were able to come away with the pole, and our sponsor, Discount Auto Parts, is presenting the race with AC Delco as the sponsor. It’s a perfect combination. Hopefully we can make it to victory lane.”

The green flag is set to drop on the AC Delco 200 just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Another Lakeland native, Keith Roggen, will start alongside Kelley after a qualifying lap of 163.046 mph. Justin Hobgood qualified third with a lap of 162.722 mph.

“Our run was a lot better than we expected,” Hobgood said. “We’ve got a good starting place, much better than last year.”
