Fords Improving In Practice

While there were only two Fords in the top 15 of Daytona 500 qualifying last weekend, they seem to be picking up momentum as the week moves on.

Six Fords finished in the top 15 of Tuesday afternoon’s foggy Daytona practice session, led by Ricky Rudd’s 189.190 mph run. Mike Skinner led all of practice with a top lap speed of 189.250 mph. However, the majority of the Ford drivers were still huddled near the middle or the back of the pack.

Robert Pressley was third fastest in the No. 77 Jasper Ford, followed by Jeff Burton’s Ford and Derrike Cope’s Pontiac.

Sterling Marlin, Bill Elliott, and Kyle Petty were the only Dodge drivers in the top ten, at seventh, eighth, and 10th respectively.

Defending NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion Bobby Labonte was 23rd fastest in practice and Bud Shootout winner Tony Stewart was 25th fastest.

The NASCAR Winston Cup drivers will practice again Wednesday morning at 11:05 a.m. ET, and it will be the last practice before Thursday’s Gatorade 125s.
