Howdy y’all.

Though I’d love to weigh in on Jesse Jackson helpin’ to announce some feller racin’ in the weekly racin’ series, and I’d love to chat at y’all about how silly the coverage of the 24 Hours at Dayton'r is about to be… I ain’t gonna.

Ya see, y’all been buggin’ me to tell ya who is gonna win the Dayton'r 500, so I figured I’d go ahead and get that outta the way.

Since I got this right the past coupla years – ever since I created a great scienteriffic system to do it – ya might wanna jot this down so you have it handy when someone asks if you wanna be in the office pool.

So, without further doo doo, here is my scienterrific process of pickin’ the winner, and the final result…

It all starts with my dad, who pulls for Derrike Cope…

Who drove his first Cup race for owner George Jefferson…

Who wasn’t married to a woman named Weezy, but did own a car driven by Hershel McGriff…

Who is no relation to former NFL great Hershel Walker…

Whose last name is the same as the middle name of our president, George W. Bush…

Who will always remember the word chad…

Which is the first name of current driver, Chad Little…

Who once drove for NFL quarterback Mark Rypien…

Who played for the Redskins under coach Joe Gibbs…

Whose first Cup win was at Dayton'r…

Which was the site of the first win for Bobby Isaac…

Who won the Cup title in 1970 in car No. 71…

Which is the number of third-place finishes in the career of Bobby Allison…

Who won three races in his first full Cup season…

Which is the number won in 1999 by then rookie Tony Stewart…

Who was a champion in 1997 in the Indy Racing League…

Which hosts the Indy 500…

Which was won four times by A.J. Foyt…

Who is the godfather of driver John Andretti…

Who drives for “The King” Richard Petty…

Who made $6 million less in his driving career than has Sterling Marlin…

Who is intrigued by the Civil War…

Which happened during the presidency of Lincoln…

Which was the make of car Jim Roper drove to victory in the very first Cup race in 1949…

Which was the year of the birth of Geoffrey Bodine…

Who won three races for owner Bud Moore…

Who also owned cars driven by Dick Trickle…

Whose last name was used for the star in the movie “Days of Thunder”…

Which featured a car sponsored by Mello Yello…

Which once sponsored a car driven by Kyle Petty…

Who won a couple of races with the Wood Brothers…

Whose last win came in 1993 with driver Morgan Shepherd…

Who had a pet raccoon named Citgo…

Which sponsors the No. 99 driven by Jeff Burton…

Who will win the Dayton'r 500 in 2001.

Y'all do me a little favor, will y'all? Please don't tell my daddy who is gonna win... he still reckons Derrike Cope has a shot.

I’ll talk at y’all next week… I reckon.
