Schrader Enjoys The Winter Heat

Schrader will be racing his Winston West and Featherlite Southwest Series cars during the NASCAR Winter Heat session in Phoenix Feb. 3 and 4.
If Schrader pulls off a victory in either event, it will mark his seventh at PIR. His first win at the track was 20 years ago, when he took the checkers first in a USAC Midget Series event.
Despite a full preseason schedule filled with testing, appearances, and the daily chores necessary to be ready for Daytona, Schrader makes sure he’s available for racing in Phoenix every February.
"I like Phoenix. I like the city, the people, and I really enjoy the racetrack," says Schrader. "It’s high speed, but you run it kind of like a short track. Maybe I like it because it’s the first place I ever towed a race car to. I remember I’d been running all the bullrings in the Midwest, and we came to Phoenix and I thought that was the neatest thing in the world, to tow across the country so we could race in the winter."
Winter Heat will feature a 100-lap Featherlite Southwest Series race, plus a 150-mile Winston West race. A Speed Truck Challenge event that was scheduled has now been cancelled.
