Tryson Lands With Woods

HAMPTON, Ga. - Pat Tryson, who just completed his first full season as the crew chief of the No. 16 Roush Racing Ford, with driver Kevin Lepage, has been named as the crew chief of the No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford, effective immediately.

Tryson replaces Mike Beam, who resigned last month. Tryson will work with driver Elliott Sadler on the Motorcraft Taurus.

"It's exciting to be here," Tryson said. "The Wood Brothers are great people and it's nice to work for a great a organization like that. Elliott is a good, young driver, and hopefully we can do a lot of great things together in the next year or so."

The Wood Brothers purchase engines and chassis from Roush, and through Tryson as one vehicle, will continue to maintain a close relationship. The No. 16 team was disbanded, effective following the NAPA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend. The 16 car and Lepage failed to make the race.

"Pat will concentrate on just the cars, and Len (Wood) and I will do all that
aggravating stuff, the testing, the travel and all the things that crew chiefs have to keep up with," said Wood Brothers team co-owner Eddie Wood. "That's the way it's going to be set up.

"Pat will still be part of the Roush organization as far as crew chief meeting and aero programs, just as if he were still a crew chief at Roush. He's bringing a lot of knowledge with him, and it'll be ongoing technology that we'll get throughout the year, and that's one of the big things about it."

Tryson has worked with several different drivers since becoming a full-time crew chief in 1997. He has partnered with drivers Geoffrey Bodine, Todd Bodine, Wally Dallenbach, Gary Bradberry, Johnny Benson and Lepage.

"Pat's a good guy," Wood said. "And he's smart. He's one of those
people who's a good people person, and that's what you've got to have. Next year, we're going to be together every week, and so you've got to have somebody that the guys can look up to and respect, and Pat is that person. No one in this garage will tell you any different."
