Alexander Makes Cup Attempt

Blaise Alexander and the rest of the Busch Series regulars wrapped up their season last week, but the 24-year-old driver is not ready to call it a year just yet.

Alexander will attempt to qualify for his first Winston Cup race this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Alexander will be trying to qualify on Friday in the No. 91 Ericsson/BellSouth Mobility Chevrolet fielded by LJ Racing.

Alexander is no stranger to the 1.5-mile track. His season-best finish of seventh place came in the Busch Series event at Atlanta in March.

The Montoursville, Pa.-native has logged two Busch Series and six Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) starts at the speedway, and has posted one top-five and three top-10 finishes.

Most notably, Alexander brought his Chevrolet home to a third-place finish in the March 1999 ARCA event at Atlanta.

"Atlanta has been pretty good to me in the past," Alexander said. "I'm hoping nothing changes this weekend and I can put the Ericsson/BellSouth Mobility Chevy in the field. I had a good finish in the March Busch race there, and some strong runs in ARCA. Starting my first Winston Cup race would be a great end to this year."

Alexander finished 25th in this year's Busch Series standings with two Top 10s.
