Pressley Stays With 77 Team

Robert Pressley - rumored by some to be on the way out - has signed on to remain as driver of the No. 77 Jasper Ford for the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season. It will be the fourth year that Pressley has driven for the team.

"I'm really excited about next year," says Pressley, who sits 25th in the points standings, only 20 behind Jeremy Mayfield. "This has been a growing year for both (crew chief) Ryan Pemberton and me. We've had some really good runs, and some great race cars, and just a lot of bad breaks that didn't give us the opportunity to show what we were capable of. Ryan has taught me to be a lot more patient this year, and has helped me to know what I want and need from the car to get the most out of it, as well as what the car needs from me.”

With only one top-five finish all season, all parties agree that there is room to grow. Jasper Engines will stay on board as an associate sponsor, with primary decals still yet to be nailed down.

“This year, with the addition of Ryan as crew chief, we have been able to give Robert Pressley what he needs to show what he can do,” said team co-owner Doug Bawel. “We are a top-25 team and we want to go to the next level.”
