Middle E Gets Another Shot

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Kerry Earnhardt will compete in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series UAW-GM Quality 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway this weekend, driving Dave Marcis’ No. 71 Team Realtree Chevrolet.

Earnhardt, who made his Winston Cup debut in the Realtree Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway's August event, is the oldest son of seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt and the older brother of NASCAR Winston Cup Series rookie Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Earnhardt qualified 27th for the Pepsi 400 at Michigan Speedway, just one position shy of a qualifying spot for the prestigious Bud Shoot Out Qualifier. He finished the race 43rd due to an accident in the first portion of the race, caused by a loose condition in the car.

Dave Marcis, team owner of Marcis Auto Racing and the Realtree Chevrolet commented on the weekend at Michigan.

"I know we need to work with Kerry and get him comfortable in the race car," he said. "We just didn't compensate enough for the changing weather that weekend. Most of the teams had the loose problem, but we had it real bad. It was a shame. Dale Earnhardt, Inc. and my team (Marcis Auto Racing) worked really hard on that car."

"I was just trying to run a smooth lap and hit my marks like we talked about and we got in a good lap to qualify," Kerry Earnhardt said. "I was disappointed with the way things went down on Sunday. But what happened, happened. We just gotta move on and prepare another good car for the Charlotte race."

Earnhardt ran the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) spring event at Lowe's Motor Speedway, finishing second in a neck and neck battle with race winner Lyndon Amick.

"I did really good in the ARCA race in May," Earnhardt said. "I'm expecting the experience to help out and boost my confidence."

Similar to Earnhardt's last Winston Cup run, Dale Earnhardt, Inc. will prepare the No. 71. Marcis will be on-hand and calling the shots from the garage and pits.

"I just can't thank Dave (Marcis) enough for giving me this chance," Kerry Eanrhardt said. "It shows that he really believes in this project and me. He's a great person to work with and to learn from."
