NASCAR Impounds Gordons Car

Reports out of Richmond International Raceway indicate that NASCAR officials have impounded the car Jeff Gordon used to win the Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 at Richmond International Raceway Saturday.

Jon McClintock of reports that just as the garage was closing down, spokesman Kevin Triplett said NASCAR needs to learn more about the No. 24 car's engine.

Asked whether it could have an outcome on the race finish, Triplett replied "I don't think so," and then added "we don't usually take away a win." He said that fines, points and money are often the remedy if an irregularity is found.

Triplett said the car would be taken to a NASCAR facility where testing could better be done "than at 1:30 in the morning"

"We may find nothing at all but with so much at stake, (the winston million and the race win) we have to do our due diligence."

Triplett said a ruling by NASCAR should be announced Monday.
