BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The No. 21 CITGO Ford will have a special look for the running of the September race at Richmond International Raceway. CITGO and Virginia Tech have teamed up and excitement filled the air in Blacksburg, Virginia when the official announcement came on Tuesday afternoon.

Elliott Sadler, sophomore driver of the famed No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford welcomed the partnership and even made a surprising addition to the program.

"This is a great day in the life of Elliott Sadler," Sadler said. "I'm an instant hometown hero to be associated with Virginia Tech. I grew up in Southern Virginia and have always followed Virginia Tech sports. I shared stories earlier today with Coach Beamer about the Tech football games I watched last year."

"I'm from Virginia, the Wood Brothers Race Team is from Virginia and with a great University in Virginia Tech this is going to be a great partnership. I'm looking forward to representing the students at Virginia Tech, Virginia Tech alumni and all the Hokie fans across the nation. We are looking forward to benefiting the Virginia Tech scholarship fund and MDA with portions of the souvenir sales generated from this partnership. I look forward to seeing each of the Hokie fans at the race and I wish Coach Beamer great luck in this year's football season."

Sadler’s surprise announcement involves his portion of the purse at the Fall race in Richmond. "When the race is over at Richmond I am going to write a check to VT with my portion of the winnings for their scholarship fund. Last but not least, Go Hokies!"

Larry Hincker, Associate Vice President of University Relations, announced the program on behalf of Virginia Tech. "This is a very exciting day for all of us at Virginia Tech," stated Hincker. "The Virginia Tech Hokie Football team is making another run at the national championship this season and now we're going to be a part of a very special NASCAR team. I'm here to tell you how pleased Virginia Tech is to be partners with CITGO, Wood Brothers Racing, Elliott Sadler and the Richmond International Raceway. Thanks to our partners, when the No. 21 CITGO Ford races around Richmond, Virginia Tech University will be visible to the millions of NASCAR fans around the country."

Eddie Wood, co-car owner of the CITGO Ford also expressed his enthusiasm for the program. According to Wood, "On behalf of Wood Brothers Racing, we are glad to be apart of this celebration with Virginia Tech. This partnership has great meaning to Len and myself along with our entire race team. Being from Virginia, I have always been a big fan of Virginia Tech and I can't wait to run the Hokie car at Richmond in September. In conjunction with our sponsor, CITGO -- who has been a part of our team for 16 years, we've decided this is the perfect time for us and Virginia Tech to team up and make the most of both of our great fortunes."

"Virginia Tech has been successful in both sports and academics. They are a Virginia team, we're a Virginia team and we have a Virginia driver in Elliott Sadler. Richmond International Raceway has been good to us over the years and I can guarantee you we are going there in September with one thing in mind -- WE WANT TO WIN! This partnership between CITGO, the Wood Brothers and VIRGINIA TECH is a great opportunity for NASCAR Fans to get more familiar with Virginia Tech and a chance for Virginia Tech fans to become more familiar with our great sport of NASCAR. We've all heard Virginia is for Lovers, this partnership's theme should be Virginia is for Winners," saidd Wood.
