  • TV Coverage of Brickyard 500

    INDIANAPOLIS -- ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and the Indy Racing Radio Network are teaming up to provide more than 20 hours of coverage of the seventh annual Brickyard 400 this week at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

    ABC Sports will televise the race live starting at 1 p.m. (EDT) Aug. 5. Bob Jenkins will perform the play-by-play with commentary from Benny Parsons and Ray Evernham. Reporting from the pits will be Bill Weber, Dr. Jerry Punch and John Kernan.

    The live race broadcast will be followed on ABC by a tape-delayed telecast of the IROC at Indy race from Aug. 4 at Indianapolis.

    "NASCAR 2Day," a one-hour pre-race show, will be televised live from noon-1 p.m. (EDT) Aug. 5 on ESPN.

    ESPN2 will broadcast pole qualifying live from 2:30-5:30 p.m. (EDT) Aug. 3. Second-round qualifying will be aired live on ESPN2 from 1-2 p.m. (EDT) Aug. 4.

    ESPN will show the final "Happy Hour" practice on a tape-delayed basis from 7:30-8:30 p.m. (EDT) Aug. 4.

    The Indy Racing Radio Network will start its live Race Day broadcast with a pre-race show at 12:30 p.m. (EDT), followed by the race at 1:15 p.m. (EDT). IRRN coverage begins with "Brickyard Live" from 9-10 p.m. (EDT) on Aug. 2-3. Live qualifying will be broadcast from 2-4 p.m. (EDT) Aug. 3. Hourly reports will be available Aug. 3-4 from 11:15 a.m.-5:15 p.m. (EDT). Mike King will perform the play-by-play announcing for all IRRN broadcasts.
