The NASCAR Nationwide Series title fight moves to a second straight road course with Saturday’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Chase Elliott leads JR Motorsports teammate Regan Smith by 12 points with Elliott Sadler and Ty Dillon each 13 behind.

“Last week we showed up at Watkins Glen with a fast NAPA Chevrolet, but it took me some time to figure out how to get around the track,” Elliott said. “My intention for this weekend is to use the notes we gathered from Road America and Watkins Glen to get ahead so we’re not ‘searching’ as much, but rather just going out there and getting the job done.”

This is Elliott’s first visit to the twisting Mid-Ohio circuit.

“We have the capability of running up front in the types of races, but it all has to come together at the right time,” he said. “I’m excited about Mid-Ohio and can’t wait to get on the track for the first time.”

Smith finished 15th in last year’s series debut. So far this year his average starting spot is 4.0 in at Road America and the Glen and knows qualifying toward the front will matter this weekend.

“Mid-Ohio is a very technical road course,” Smith said. “It’s flat, and half the corners feel like they are off-cambered. You have some pretty big elevation changes to contend with. You’re cresting hills and dealing with blind spots.

“I’m going to have to work hard all week just to study the place, to learn and to remind myself of areas where I did things right and where I did things wrong. Last year, the road courses were definitely places we could’ve gained more points and helped ourselves out in the championship.”

Sadler echoes Smith’s views and hopes for a good run to help his championship cause.

But there’s also more to look forward to for several drivers including Sadler with special guests from sponsor Nationwide Children’s Hospital in attendance.

"I'm excited to travel to Mid-Ohio this weekend for two main reasons,” said Sadler. “First, I'm ready to improve on my sixth-place finish from last year's inaugural Nationwide Series race. With one race now under my belt, I think we can be more aggressive and be a strong contender to win.

“The second reason why I'm looking forward to Mid-Ohio, is the special opportunity I get to have with my special guest, Sean Tibbs. Last year I was fortunate enough to share the day with Caden Bowers, who was also a patient champion from the Nationwide Children's Hospital. Sharing the day with Caden was one of those special days you never forget. I'm pumped to meet Sean and create some long lasting memories with him."
