NEWTON, Iowa - Brad Keselowski visited Iowa Speedway's Victory Lane for the third time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series on Saturday night in the U.S. Cellular 250.

The Team Penske driver dominated the race but had to hold off the field after a late caution bunched the field for a restart with only a handful of laps to go.

When the green reappeared after caution flew for James Buescher’s spin, Keselowski had his hands full with Michael McDowell, Trevor Bayne and others battling in his rear view mirror. He was able to keep his Discount Tire Mustang ahead to take the checkered flag for the 30th time in his Nationwide Series career, which ranks sixth on the all-time win list.

“Just a great car this team gives me when I have the opportunity to drive it,” said Keselowski, who led four times for 146 laps on Saturday night.

“I thought Sam Hornish and Michael McDowell were good all night. They were tough to beat. We gave it all we had, but it very easily could have turned out differently. … It’s great for the team and am real happy for them and glad to be part of it.”

Keselowski flew into Iowa from Pocono where he’ll compete in Sunday’s GoBowling.com 400 Sprint Cup Series race.

“We came here with one thing in mind and we accomplished that goal and that was to win the race,” he said.

“When Brad makes this trek across country, it’s for only one thing, and that’s to win,” added Keselowski’s crew chief, Jeremy Bullins.

McDowell and Bayne crossed the finish line behind Keselowski.

“For a guy who probably shouldn’t even be in the sport at this point I’m just so thankful to get an opportunity to drive these cars,” said McDowell, who has finished second in his last seven starts for Joe Gibbs Racing.

“It’s just one of those days. I’m real happy with the car they gave me, and maybe another two laps and we’d probably be back up to second.”

Bayne’s finish was good enough to collect the $100,000 bonus as part of the final race in the Nationwide Dash 4 Cash program.

Sam Hornish Jr. was fourth and was second when he came to pit road on the lap 244 caution but lost spots on the four tire stop.
“It was the chance that we had to go out there and win,” said Hornish, who won the May Iowa Nationwide Series race. “Maybe we would have got it with two, but I got us a little bit ahead of the track.

Ty Dillon followed his win at Indianapolis last week with his third straight top five finish but a bobble on pit road on the second to last stop of the race cost the Richard Childress Racing driver spots in the field.

“If we’re going to win a championship we have to stop making mistakes on pit road,” said a disappointed Dillon.

Regan Smith, Brian Scott, Chase Elliott, Dylan Kwasniewski and Elliott Sadler complete the first ten finishers.

Elliott now leads his JR Motorsports teammate Regan Smith by two points with Sadler four out and Dillon twelve behind.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series now heads to Watkins Glen International next Saturday afternoon.
