Edwards-Keselowski Feud Heats Up

The feud between Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski reached a fever pitch after Saturday night's last lap tangle in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 at Gateway International Raceway.

With temperatures soaring in the St. Louis area the ongoing battle between the pair heated up in a big way after their last lap tangle heading to the checkered flag.

After Keselowski made contact with Edwards' rear bumper racing in turn one on the last lap, Edwards returned the favor coming off turn four to the finish line and sent Keselowski sliding and setting off a chain reaction multi-car crash.

“I couldn't let him take the win away from me,” Edwards said in victory lane. “We came here to win, and he took it away from me in turn one. I did what I had to do. He wasn't going to take this one away from me. He got in over his head in turn one, and it was at my expense. He probably could have gotten by me without that contact.”

"That's my job to win that race and to make sure that I don't get walked on or get something taken away from me that's mine," he added "He knows that's how I race, and I know that's how he races, too. We both respect that."

Edwards and Keselowski had their celebrated incident earlier this year in the March Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta which saw Keselowski flip over after Edwards made contact in response to what he thought was a rough move earlier in the race.

"Brad and I have a history, but that has nothing to do what happened tonight," Edwards said. "I feel like we respect each other a lot. There on that last lap I would have won the race if he hadn't bumped in front of (Turn) 1, and he would have finished second.

"The way it went, he bumped me and he finished wherever he finished -- and I still won the race. That was the only way I could see the race turning out fair."

Keselowski, who was uninjured in the Gateway melee tried to brush off Saturday night's latest chapter in his battle with Edwards.

"It was just great racing. I figured out a way to beat him," Keselowski said. "He wasn't happy with me, so he wrecked me. Wrecking down the straightaway is never cool whether it's at 200 mph or 120. I'm sorry that's the way it had to end.
"I'm sure he'll say how sorry he is, or how cool he thinks he is, or how great of a guy he is in his own mind. But that's not reality."

Edwards was unapologetic about Saturday night's incident and seemed ready to move on.

"I'm sure tempers are up right now," Edwards said. "But hopefully after looking at it, we could each step in the other's shoes and see it from another perspective. From my side, I'll just go on and keep racing."
