Hamlin Holds On At Dover

After taking IV fluids because he was not feeling well, Denny Hamlin went out and dominated the caution filled NASCAR Busch Series RoadLoans 200 at Dover International Speedway for his third win of the season.

Hamlin drove to his fifth career Busch Series victory in 88 career starts and led 138 laps on his way to Saturday's checkered flag.

"I felt a lot better early than I did late," Hamlin said. "But when the car is handling as well as it was, you dig down deep and find something in you."

Hamlin opted to take four new tires during the final round of pit stops with 30 laps remaining which proved to be the winning move.

Martin Truex, Jr., Matt Kenseth, Mike Bliss and Reed Sorenson rounded out the top five.

"Denny just had the best car on new tires," Truex said. "We had to stay out in the end. It was about our only chance to beat Denny. We were good on old tires but we could never get in the right situation to use that to our advantage."

Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, Jason Keller, Greg Biffle and David Reutimann completed the first ten qualifiers.

The caution-riddled race featured several spins, accidents and multi-car crashes with the biggest drama involving Tony Raines and Robby Gordon.

The duo made contact on lap 59 with Raines sliding up the track and making hard contact with the wall.

Raines got out of his car and waited for Gordon to come around under caution, hurling his helmet at his car as he passed.

“He did it on purpose. That’s Robby Gordon,” Raines said. “As Casey Mears said, every time you think he’s done something stupid, he one-ups himself. And he did.”

NASCAR is expected to review the incident and Raines as well as Gordon will likely face a penalty. Gordon is currently on probation for his post-race incident at Montreal in August and a further penalty could result in his suspension.

The Busch Series now heads to Kansas Speedway next Saturday afternoon.
