Season Review: Denny Hamlin

Somewhat lost in Denny Hamlin's impressive NEXTEL Cup season was the young driver's success in the Busch Series.

While Hamlin was capturing the Cup "Rookie-of-the-Year" award, he was also putting together a solid Busch Series year.

Hamlin captured two wins and six poles on his way to finishing fourth in the 2006 Busch Series standings.

Despite the daunting task of running the full schedule in both of NASCAR's top divisions, Hamlin is proud of the effort and for the opportunity to learn.

"I think it's been 50/50," he said of the double duty. "There's been half the weeks where I've left the race on Saturday night and said, this has been a benefit, and half of them that I said, I'm just wasting my time, basically I didn't learn anything, I think it's hurt. It's kind of got me confused on what I got going on on Sunday.

"You know, it's been 50/50. Looking back on it, this has been a great year. I'm glad I chose to run the whole schedule."

Hamlin's first career Busch wins came on drastically different tracks.

His first came on the road course in Mexico City in March. He followed that up in May with a victory at historic Darlington Raceway.

Hamlin finished no worse than eighth in any of the final five races of the season and finished just 16 points behind Clint Bowyer for third in the season standings.
