Newman Delivers Again

BROOKLYN, Mich. - Ryan Newman passed Greg Biffle on the race's final restart and went on to win his second straight NASCAR Busch Series race Saturday in the Domino's Pizza 250 at Michigan International Speedway.

Newman led the last six laps after passing Biffle on the lap 119 restart after the race's final caution. He held off Biffle by .766 seconds to win his second Busch Series race in a row after his victory in the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen last week.

Biffle had dominated the race but picked up some oil dry on the track during the final caution period which caused him to spin his tires when the green flag flew. Newman powered by for what turned out to be the winning move, leaving Biffle to fight Carl Edwards for second.

"Biffle didn't get a really good restart and I had to go one way or another," Newman said. "I didn't really want to go low but I did. I just stuck it down there and put the pedal to the metal and it paid off."

It was an incredible comeback for Newman, who started from the 19th row.

Edwards was third, Martin Truex Jr. fourth and J.J. Yeley fifth.

Paul Menard, Bobby Labonte, Denny Hamlin, Elliott Sadler and Johnny Sauter completed the first ten finishers.

The win was Newman's third career Busch Series victory in his 19th career series start. He won a Busch Series race at Michigan back in 2001.

It wasn't a good day for championship contenders Clint Bowyer and Reed Sorenson, who both suffered problems on Saturday.

Sorenson had an engine blow on his Discount Tire Dodge early in the race while Bowyer's AC Delco Chevy ran out of fuel.

That allowed Truex, Jr. to stretch out his lead in the Busch Series standings to 204 over Bowyer, the largest advantage of the season.

Sorenson is 324 behind with Edwards 351 back and Kenny Wallace rounding out the Top 5.

The Busch Series now travels to Bristol Motor Speedway next Friday night.
