ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Jamie McMurray dominated Monday's make-up Busch Grand National Series Rockingham 200 at North Carolina Speedway leading 192 of the 197 lap chase. David Green and Todd Bodine completed the first three finishers.

McMurray's Phoenix Construction Dodge was the class of the field with only Kerry Earnhardt and Michael Waltrip able to lead any other laps. The win was McMurray's third career Busch Series victory, all coming in his last six starts dating back to the end of the 2002 season. It was McMurray's second win at Rockingham.

Randy Lajoie and Jason Keller rounded out the Top 5 with Mike Bliss, Kevin Grubb, Brian Vickers, Johnny Sauter and Kevin Harvick finishing the first ten.

"I can't thank (car owner) James Finch and this whole Phoenix team for the job they did," said McMurray, who finished fifth in Sunday's Winston Cup Subway 400 at Rockingham. "They ran Chevrolets last year and we switched over to Dodges this season and this car was absolutely perfect all day."

When asked how he felt after running 600 miles in two days, McMurray replied, "Well I was sore yesterday, but after today I'm not so sore any more."

The victory gives McMurray the point lead by 25 over Bodine, although McMurray won't be running the full series this season.

"Our car was great on long runs of 30-40 laps but we were a little tight on the short runs," said runnerup Bodine. "Second is ok and we'll just look forward to Las Vegas next weekend."

The race was slowed by several caution flags for a variety of incidents, one of the most severe involving Mike Wallace and Shane Hmiel. As the duo raced through the first turn on lap 115, they touched while passing the slower car of Larry Gunselman. The contact sent both into the outside wall with a small fire erupting under Hmiel's car. Angry words followed.

"The media has made the young guys into superstars," said Wallace. "Everybody in radio, television, newspapers, they're the 'Young guns, young stars.' They can do whatever they want. They think they're invincible. They don't care if they wreck people. People keep putting them in rides. It doesn't matter how much they tear up.

"We were just trying to get out of here and go to Vegas. We had nothing to gain at the point we were at. They might have a lot of nerve, but they don't have brain one."

Hmiel saw a different side of the story.

I don't know how old Mike Wallace was when he started, but this is just a part in my career where I'm at now," Hmiel said. "I'm lucly enough to be in the Busch Series. I love racing NASCAR, and this is what I love to do."

The Busch Series heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for next Saturday's Sam's Town 300.
