Kahne RYR Join Team Rensi

Team Rensi Motorsports and Robert Yates Racing announced a strategic partnership that will bring Kasey Kahne and the No. 98 Busch Series team to Team Rensi’s shop in Mooresville, N.C.

Effective immediately, Team Rensi will field two Fords in the Busch Series, one for Kahne and one for its current driver, Bobby Hamilton Jr. Channellock will continue to sponsor Kahne.

“When Robert Yates first approached me about forming this alliance, I immediately began a business analysis weighing both the advantages and disadvantages and looking at the impact it would have on our No. 25 Team Marines Racing program,” co-owner Sam Rensi said. “We have found that partnering with Robert Yates Racing is a sound business decision.

“The advantages to having a multi-car team are endless. You are able to build a much broader and expansive information base with the additional test time, wind tunnel time, input from multiple drivers and crew chiefs and an opportunity to augment research and development.”

Essentially, RYR is moving the No. 98 team, its assests, personnel, technology and proprietary information to Team Rensi. Rensi had started using RYR engines at the start of the season for Hamilton Jr.

“Team Rensi Motorsports has been a valued customer of Robert Yates Racing Engines since the beginning of the season,” Yates said. “We are excited about taking the relationship to another level. We view this mutual cooperation as a positive directional step as we strive to develop the upcoming talent of Kasey Kahne.

“Team Rensi Motorsports is fielding competitive equipment week to week with consistently strong runs by Bobby Hamilton Jr., and it is our hope that that consistency will help to bring the Channellock program up to our goals and objectives.”

Kahne, a former USAC Midget champion, is competing in 21 races in his initial season in NASCAR. So far, he’s made seven events, with a best finish of 18th at California Speedway. Last weekend at Dover, Kahne qualified 13th and finished 20th.

Hamilton Jr. has enjoyed a stellar season thus far, winning one race and standing seventh in the Busch Series points.
