CONCORD, N.C. - Kyle Busch picked up his record seventh victory in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday night going to Victory Lane in the NC Education Lottery 200.

It’s his second consecutive victory in the Truck Series and his 48th career win in 136 career starts.

“It was certainly interesting from my vantage point. We had a really fast Tundra tonight,” Busch said. “The guys at the body shop are really helping us out and building some good speed.

“Anytime you can win here in Charlotte it’s in front of your friends, your family, your fans. Everybody’s worked hard."

Busch started fourth but rocketed to the top spot by Lap 3 after pole sitter Christopher Bell cut down a tire. Busch stayed up front through the conclusion of Stage 1 before falling back in the top five for much of stage 2.

But Busch was in position to make a charge in the closing laps of the second stage, getting a big run on the top-two positions held by Johnny Sauter and Matt Crafton and going three-wide down the backstretch to take the top spot.

“We shot through the middle of those guys. They were battling really hard side-by-side,” Busch said. “Made the top work through 1 and 2. Got a good run off 2. Crafton left me a lane in the middle. So I kinda blew by them both of them."

Busch quickly worked his way back to the front in the opening laps of the final stage and held on through several late-race restarts to score his 173rd NASCAR National Series victory.

His 48th Truck Series trophy pulls him within three victories of the all-time series record of 51, currently held by Ron Hornaday Jr.

“It’s been a fantastic run and we win a lot,” Busch said. “The record is just a number. I remember passing Mark Martin on the XFINITY side. I look forward to passing Ron on the Truck side and hopefully setting that a little bit higher."

Sauter had another strong truck, finishing second for the second straight week while Bell rallied to finish third after his early cut tire and going down two laps as a result.

“It was a good night for us. This has been a place I’ve typically struggled in the past,” Sauter said. “We were good in the second stage. I called for an adjustment and it was phenomenal and I should have got more of it on the final pitstop. Needed more front grip."

“All these guys on this team did a great job of getting me back out there,” Bell said. “I had a second-place truck. Ran third with it. That’s what’s frustrating."

Ryan Truex and Timothy Peters rounded out the top-five finishers.

The race saw nine cautions for 38 laps and 10 lead changes among eight drivers.

Sauter has a 15 point lead over Bell in the series standings with Crafton in third, 51 points back.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has next weekend off before a four-week stretch of races starting at Dover International Speedway on June 2nd.
