Two victories by young drivers in the last month has energized Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Camping World Truck Series program and the team plans to have those drivers back next season.
Busch said plans have not been finalized but he looks to have 20-year-old Darrell Wallace Jr., who won last month at Martinsville Speedway, return for a full season next year. Busch also says he plans to have 17-year-old Erik Jones, who won last weekend at Phoenix International Raceway in his fifth series start, run select races next season.
Busch, who has four wins this season, said he looks to have Wallace in the No. 54 truck next season. Busch expects to split time with Jones in the No. 51 truck with Busch running about 10-12 races.
The wins by the two youngsters this season “proves our capabilities and what KBM is all about,’’ Busch said. “We’ve understood and now recognize that the Trucks are a capable playground for us that we can be competitive at.
“Nationwide, unfortunately, is a little frustrating with Joe Gibbs Racing and Penske Racing, and I’m a part of (Gibbs). It’s hard to be competitive at that level. We feel like we have a good handle on the Trucks and that’s where we’re going to put our focus.’’
