Brendan Gaughan has returned to be a force in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2013.

The Richard Childress Racing driver scored his fourth consecutive top-five finish in last Friday’s Lucas Oil 200 at Dover International Speedway.  Although he started 15th in the field, Gaughan worked his way to the front and finished second behind Kyle Busch.  In the process, Gaughan moved up to third in the series point standings with six races in the books.

"This was another great job by Shane (Wilson, crew chief) and the entire team," said Gaughan.  "Our Chevrolet was fast all day but just a little too loose.  My pit crew did a great job along with my spotter.  I've got to thank all of them for helping us bring home this top-five finish."

Now, Gaughan sets his sights on the lightning-fast Texas Motor Speedway and Friday night’s WinStar World Casino 400.  The veteran driver knows his way around the 1.5-mile Fort Worth oval, with four career victories that came with season sweeps in 2003 and 2004.

Gaughan has posted seven top fives in 17 TMS starts, has completed 93 percent (2,503 of 2,690) of the laps contested and is credited with 163 laps led.  It’s no wonder that previous performance coupled with improved recent efforts has Gaughan excited about racing in "The Lone Star State" this weekend.

"Shane (Wilson) and I have had a lot of success at Texas through the years," Gaughan said.  "I got my first Truck Series win at Texas, and then continued to have a lot of success during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.  The last few years, we haven’t done as well as I would have liked at Texas so the team decided to use one of our test sessions at this track.  We gained some valuable information.  This is a track where I know I can win."

It’s been a renaissance year for Gaughan, who's struggled to find a consistent career groove in recent years.  But he’s made the best of limited Nationwide and Truck Series opportunities to work his way back into a solid full-time effort in 2013.

"I would have been thankful to compete full-time for Richard Childress Racing in any series," Gaughan said before the current campaign began, "but returning to the Trucks will give me a second chance to go out and win a championship.

"All of my Truck Series wins have come with Shane on the pit box.  Now that we're back together, we're going to do all that we can to get that championship we should have brought home years ago."
