Todd Bodine says he won’t be driving the No. 13 truck for ThorSport Racing and that he’ll be part of Speed Channel’s broadcast of the July 13 Camping World Truck Series race at Iowa Speedway.
Bodine made those comments Tuesday on “Tradin’ Paint’’ on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Bodine, who saw his streak of 204 consecutive Truck starts end last weekend at Kentucky, said he decided not to continue with ThorSport in a third truck for the team. He had not finished better than 11th this season and was 15th in the points before missing the Kentucky race.
“We really haven’t had a lot of success,’’ Bodine said on “Tradin’ Paint’’ on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “I’ve been struggling with that, whether to try to just get it right and go out there and go in circles and keep the streaks going and all that kind of thing.
“I’ve actually made the decision, and you guys will be the first to know, I’m not going to be driving the ‘13’ anymore. I made the decision based a lot on performance. I don’t just want to go out and ride around. I want to be competitive. I want to run up front. If I can’t do that, I don’t want to be out there.
“Part of it is Matt Crafton right now is leading the points and they’ve got a lot going on, opportunities to win this championship. I didn’t want to be the guy that put the team in a bind with trying to get these trucks ready. They don’t have a third team. They’ve been taking guys from the ‘98’ and ‘88’ and, of course, the ARCA team has been doing it. They’ve been just trying to get this thing together.
“I’m not going to say it’s been hurting their performance, but it’s tough on the team, it’s tough on the guys to have to do that. I told them I’m just going to bow out. That’s the decision I made to do.’’
Bodine told “Tradin’ Paint’’ that he’ll fill in for Michael Waltrip on Speed Channel’s broadcast of Truck qualifying and the race at Iowa because Waltrip has a prior commitment.
