BROOKLYN, Mich. – Kevin Harvick outran Timothy Peters on a green-white-checkered finish to win Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series VFW 200 at Michigan International Speedway.

Harvick got around Mark Martin and Parker Kligerman with nine laps to go before the duo was involved in a multi-truck accident that also included series point leader Austin Dillon and pole-sitter Matt Crafton to bring out the caution.

Another yellow flew for debris on the track when Joey Coulter’s tire exploded on the front straight to set up to the overtime run to the finish.

When the green flag reappeared Harvick got the jump on the field and was able to keep his Kevin Harvick Inc. Chevy Silverado ahead of the field to score his second straight series win and follow-up his victory last Sunday at Pocono Raceway.

“It got wild there at the end like it usually does with these truck races,” Harvick said. “We got a good restart there on that last green and was able to stay ahead of Peters. What can I say, just a great effort by this team and this crew to keep our trucks so competitive.”

It was Harvick 11th career NCWTS victory. He has finished in the top five in all four of his 2011 races in the series.

Timothy Peters, Miguel Paludo, James Buescher and David Starr rounded out the top five.

“This is a brand new truck, “ said Peters, who won last month at Lucas Oil Raceway. “It’s my favorite now that’s for sure.”

Jason White, Ron Hornaday, Brendan Gaughan, Colin Braun and Cole Whitt completed the first 10 finishers.

Johnny Sauter, who had a variety of issues Saturday including a spin and trip into the inside backstretch wall, is the new point leader by five over Buescher with Dillon eight behind and Peters 12 out of the lead.

Dillon had a fast truck and was running with the leaders until his late race accident, which destroyed his Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.

“Parker’s got to learn not to go and take air off us like that when he pulls down,” Dillon said about Kilgerman’s move that set off the chain reaction accident. “That’s like the second time he’s done that. It’s a shame because we had a truck very capable of winning here today.”

Another pre-race favorite was Kyle Busch, seeking his sixth win of the season’s eleven races. He was knocked out when a piece of debris from another truck’s side window got into the engine compartment of his Toyota to cause damage.

“Yeh I’d say that was a fluke thing,” Busch said. “I felt something and then looked at my gauges but saw nothing wrong then all of a sudden we just lost power and we were down for the day. It cut something when it got in there.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series now heads to Bristol Motor Speedway this Wednesday night.
