Chicago Sweet Home To Busch

Kyle Busch has enjoyed a stellar career at Chicagoland Speedway including wins in the Nationwide Series, Sprint Cup Series and last year's inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series EnjoyIllinois.com 225.

After his historic sweep of all three NASCAR national division races last weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, Busch is looking to keep his hot streak alive with a second straight Chicagoland Truck Series victory on Friday night.

Throw in some family ties to the Chicagoland area to go with his outstanding record at the 1.5-mile track and it's easy to see why Busch is looking forward to a stop in the Windy City.

"Chicago is always fun because my parents are from that area and so are my fiancée's (Samantha) parents," Busch said. "It has a lot of history and family ties. I like going to Chicago. I have won the Cup race there, a Nationwide race and last year's Truck race.

"I am looking forward to going there and defending last year's win the win in my own truck. I think we have a good shot and, with a new sponsor on board in Traxxas, we have a good chance at winning and making it four in a row."

In order to keep his winning streak alive Busch knows he'll have to have another fast truck Friday night and the ability to navigate the tricky intermediate-sized oval's layout.

"Being able to run that place wide open - you can leave the throttle peddle down all the way around," Busch said is the key to running well at Chicagoland. "If you have a fast truck and a good-handling truck, it is whoever can do that the longest. Typically, you can run three of four laps wide open. If you can do it longer than that, then you will be the truck to beat."

Busch would love nothing more than to add another win to his current total of 78 victories in NASCAR's top-three divisions (Sprint Cup - 19, Nationwide - 40, Camping World Truck - 19).

A trip to victory lane Friday night would also be a boost for his quest to win the Truck Series owner title. The No. 18 Toyota entry trails the first-place truck No. 30 truck of Germain Racing by 68 points.

Crew chief Eric Phillips is confident his driver will have a mount capable of accomplishing those goals and laid out his view of what it will take to pick up the win.

"Just being able to run wide open with the truck is the biggest thing, in my opinion," he said. "It's just working on your setups. You want to stay wide open for a long time where you don't have to start lifting during a run is a big part of being successful there.

"It's basically wide open there, anyway, but you don't have quite the banking that you have at Charlotte or Atlanta to hold the truck, so you've really got to work on your balance so that you can stay wide open through a whole run."
