Harvick Back In Saddle

After dismissing Jack Sprague from the No. 2 truck, owner Kevin Harvick will be first up to fill the seat as the Craftsman Truck Series heads to Martinsville Speedway for Saturday's Kroger 200.

Harvick hasn't been behind the wheel of a truck yet this season, but he's ready to pilot the No. 2 Chevrolet at Martinsville. He's made six starts at the track and last posted a fourth-place finish there in the spring of 2007.

"I am looking forward to getting behind the wheel in Martinsville. It should be a lot of fun," Harvick said.

In total, Harvick has posted three top-10 finishes at the track in the truck series and has an average finish of 13.8. But he knows that anything can happen once the race gets heated up.

"Martinsville is one of those tracks where you can be good all day long and have something go wrong at the end," Harvick said. "You have to make the truck roll through the tight corners and keeping the brakes on the truck the entire race is very important. Avoiding wrecks is another key to a successful day at Martinsville.

"It's a short track and things happen in a hurry. If we can stay out of trouble, I think we have as good a chance as anyone."

Harvick has made 92 total truck starts in his career and has posted over half of his 23 total career top-five finishes on tracks that are less than a mile in length.

The team is bringing a well-tested Martinsville truck to the track this weekend. The truck - chassis 021 - has been through it all at Martinsville and is ready to roll again.

In the spring this year, the No. 2 team brought the same truck to the track and with it, Sprague recorded the team's only pole start of the season to date. He laid down a blistering lap of 19.658 seconds to set the new qualifying record at the track. His effort was even quicker than the Sprint Cup pole speed during that weekend of 19.666 seconds by Jeff Gordon.

But, as Harvick mentioned is possible at Martinsville, the truck didn't withstand the event and was involved in a crash, recording a 24th-place finish. Since then, it's been rebuilt and is ready for Harvick to try and capture the team's first victory of the season.

“KHI has worked really hard on our flat-track program. Martinsville is one of those places where you have to have great pit stops and do everything right," Harvick added. "I hope I can bring the No. 2 team its first win of the season."

The Truck Series teams will have two practice sessions Friday starting at 11 a.m. (ET). Qualifying is set for 10:10 a.m. on Saturday with the race taking the green flag later that day at 3:00 p.m. (ET).
