Speed Trucks To Bristol

Within just a few weeks of winning his fourth ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Nashville Superspeedway, Scott Speed is facing two new challenges in his racing career, in the form of two unknown tracks.

Last weekend, Speed had his first taste of dirt racing at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and brought his No. 2 ARCA Toyota home in eighth place.

"Honestly, I'm just glad this race is over," he said. "It was definitely an experience and one I will never forget, that's for sure."

This Wednesday, Speed faces his second new track as he pilots the No. 22 Red Bull Toyota in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series' O'Reilly 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Like the dirt track last week in Illinois, Speed has never even seen Bristol, let alone run any laps around the high-banked .533-mile oval.

Leading up to his first start in a truck since June at Michigan, Speed received some valuable advice from fellow Bill Davis Racing teammates Mike Skinner and series points leader Johnny Benson about how to be successful at Bristol. Both Skinner and Benson have won at Bristol, with Skinner bringing the team its first ever NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory there in 2005.

"A lot of people have given me tips on Bristol," Speed said. "Mike and Johnny have probably run there more than anyone in the series, so they know the track well. I just hope that I adapt quickly. It should be a lot of fun and if we are there in the end, we'll see what we can do."

At Michigan in June, Speed finished third. He has made eight truck starts so far this season, with his first victory in the series coming at Dover Int'l Speedway at the end of May.

Speed will bring the same truck to Bristol that he raced at Michigan. Wednesday night's truck race is the first of eight more that Speed will run this season.

He'll be back on the dirt again Labor Day weekend, when the ARCA RE/MAX Series races at the Duquoin State Fairgrounds.

Wednesday night's O'Reilly 200 is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast on SPEED.

Qualifying and two practices preceed the race on Wednesday, with one practice running from 9:45 to 10:50 a.m., a second, final practice from Noon to 1:15 p.m. and qualifying at 4:15 p.m.
