Martins Ticket To Win

FONTANA, Calif. - Mark Martin wanted to retire as a full-time NEXTEL Cup Series driver and couldn't wait to run in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

Now we know why.

Martin held off Todd Bodine and Ted Musgrave on a green-white-checkered finish for the second straight week to score the victory in Friday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series racetickets.com 200 at California Speedway.

The win gave Martin back-to-back triumphs in the season's first two races, following his win in last week's season opener at Daytona.

I'm having a blast," said Martin. "It's a privilege to drive this Ford F-150, and I love racing with Todd Bodine and Ted Musgrave.

"I stepped on it and tried to get across the finish line first. Todd learned if we had a green-white-checkered, he was sitting pretty. But we had enough to keep it out there."

The veteran drove his Roush Racing Ford 150 to victory lane to become the first driver in California Speedway history to score wins the NEXTEL Cup, the Busch Series, Craftsman Trucks and IROC at the track.

The race was forced into overtime when Mike Wallace crashed hard on the backstretch to bring out the caution on lap 98. That set-up a green-white-checkered spring to the finish with Martin ahead of Germain Racing teammates Bodine and Musgrave on the restart.

As the duo tried its best to work together and get by Martin, the laps ran out and Martin took the checkered flag ahead of the teammates for the second consecutive race.

Bodine had to rally back from a lap 48 penalty when he was called for passing on the left after a restart.

"We had to serve that penalty, which I disagreed with," Bodine said. "The guy ahead of me missed a shift and I either had to go by him or run into him. But we can't be too disappointed. That's second two weeks in a row and third for our teammate."

Polesitter David Reutimann finished fourth with Jack Sprague rounding out the Top 5.

Johnny Benson, Mike Bliss, Jon Wood, Rick Crawford and Dennis Setzer completed the first ten finishers.

The truck series schedule resumes on Friday, March 17th at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
