No. 28 NASCAR K&N East Team Penalized

NASCAR announced today the No. 28 team that competes in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East has been penalized as a result of two rules violations committed Friday, Sept. 28 at Dover (Del.) International Speedway.

The No. 28 car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); Section 12-4I (Any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules) and Section 20C-12.3T (All shock absorbers must compress or extend a distance of six (6) inches in a time span of 1-1/2 minutes or less with the external adjustment set in any position: Shock travel exceeded maximum time limit) of the 2012 NASCAR rule book. The violation was discovered during post-race inspection.

In addition, the No. 28 car was also found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); Section 12-4I (Any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules) and Section 20C-8.4D (The lubrication oil reservoir tank encasement flat cover must be bolted in place and remain securely fastened to the top perimeter of the lubrication oil reservoir tank encasement at all times during competition. Teams must take any steps necessary to ensure the integrity of the sealing of the oil reservoir tank flat cover to the top perimeter of the lubrication oil reservoir tank encasement, regardless of situations and/or conditions: The cover was raised and did not seal the top perimeter of the lubrication oil reservoir tank) of the 2012 NASCAR rule book. The violation was discovered during post-race inspection.

Brandon McReynolds, driver of car No. 28, has been penalized with the loss of 12 championship driver points per violation (24 points total) and Larry McReynolds, owner of car No. 28, has been penalized with the loss of 12 championship owner points per violation (24 points total). Mike Hillman Jr., crew chief of car No. 28, has been fined $2500 per violation ($5,000 total), suspended from NASCAR until the fine is paid and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31, 2012.
