Luis Martinez Jr. remained near the front of the pack for most of the race and, in a furious green-white-checkered finish, went on to pick up his first career win in the Bi-Mart Salute To The Troops NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race Sunday at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway.
The Long Beach, California was able to get past David Mayhew as he spun on the final lap and held off Eric Holmes on the final lap and collected the win in his 23rd career start in the series.
Derek Thorn followed Holmes in third with Moses Smith and Dave Smith fourth and fifth, respectively.
Series point leader Greg Pursley was leading the event on Lap 47 when something failed on his smoking car and ending his day early for his first DNF of the season.
Michael Self took over the lead and remained out front until Andrew Ranger passed him on Lap 54 and assumed the point.
Ranger got off the track on Lap 62 allowing Martinez his chance to get back in front.
Brett Thompson was sixth and Spencer Gallagher seventh. Self rebounded from a spin to finish eighth with Tom Klauer and Ryan Philpott rounding out the top 10.
The Bi-Mart Salute to the Troops 125 will air on SPEED on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 3 p.m. PT
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will next race in the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Colorado National Speedway north of Denver on Saturday, Aug. 6.
