The new IndyCar Series event will be contested on the 13-turn, 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio course in Lexington, Ohio.
“We are thrilled to be adding Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to the IndyCar Series schedule and look forward to bringing our series to a state rich in motorsports tradition,” said Brian Barnhart, president and chief operating officer of the Indy Racing League, the sanctioning body for the IndyCar Series.
“Mid-Ohio has a deep championship heritage that connects names like Foyt, Andretti, Rahal, Rutherford, Unser and others with the current stars and teams in the IndyCar Series.”
Located 60 miles north of Columbus, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has been called the one of the most competitive circuits in the U.S. and annually hosts a diversity of locally, regionally and nationally sanctioned racing events for amateur, club and professional riders and drivers.
The race increases the number of announced road/street course events in ’07 to five.
“TrueSports, Inc. has a long standing record of hosting the best road racing has to offer,” said Michelle Trueman Gajoch, president of TrueSports, Inc., which owns and operates Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. “Aligning the American Le Mans Series and the IndyCar Series further reinforces our commitment to that initiative and our significant customer base as well. Further, it is important to recognize without the cooperation of our long-standing partner, ALMS and the interest of the IndyCar Series, none of this would have been feasible. On behalf of our entire team we are grateful to both.”
