Honda Deal For Penske

Roger Penske will run Honda engines in his 2006 Indy Racing League effort leaving Toyota power solely in the hands of Chip Ganassi Racing next season.

The two-car Marlboro Team Penske duo of Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish, Jr. will have Honda powerplants next season, ending their association with Toyota.

Honda engines have won 26 of the last 33 Indy Racing League events.

Toyota announced that it was pulling out of the IRL at the end of 2006. The company will honor all existing contracts for its final year of competition.

It is believed that Toyota will enter NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series competition in 2007. The company began a Craftsman Truck Series program two years ago.

Penske was thought to be one of the teams which would run a Toyota Cup program, but that has become clouded with the car owner's decision to dump the manufacturer in favor of Honda on the IRL side.
