Panther Tests Pair

Panther Racing hasn't confirmed sponsorship of a second IRL IndyCar Series car, but this week it tested two potential drivers to fill the seat.

On Dec. 20, Ed Carpenter tested on the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway oval. The next day, Andre Lotterer of Germany took laps on the 2.21-mile road course.

Carpenter had a high finish of eighth in 16 races this season with Red Bull Cheever Racing. Lotterer competed the past two seasons in the Formula Nippon Series in Japan, and was a Formula One test driver for Jaguar in 2002.

A potential second driver would team with Tomas Scheckter, driver of the No. 4 Pennzoil Panther Racing Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone. In the 2004 season, rookie Mark Taylor competed in six races before being replaced by Townsend Bell.
