Rice Captures Kansas Pole

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Buddy Rice won his third pole of the season after turning a lap of 210.141 mph in qualifying for Sunday's IRL IndyCar Series Argent Mortgage Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway. It was the sixth pole in seven races for a Honda driver.

"The team also did an excellent job today," said Rice. "The track has gotten quicker as the day has gone along, and the team made some small adjustments just before my qualifying run to adjust to the track. They worked, and that’s how we ended up with the pole."

Rice edged championship points leader Tony Kanaan by just four hundredths of a second to make it an all-Honda front row for the fourth time this year. Rice's Rahal Letterman Racing teammate, Vitor Meira, rounded out the top three for Honda.

Sam Hornish Jr. and Tomas Scheckter completed the top-five qualifiers.

Bryan Herta, who won the 2003 race at Kansas, will start tenth.

ArcaEx driver Dario Franchitti qualified ninth, but will have to move to the back of the 21-car starting field, because the team made a precautionary engine change following the qualifying session.

Sunday's 200-lap race will be televised live on ABC, starting at 12:30 p.m. (ET).
