Last year Kanaan came about as close to winning as a driver can in last year's Bombardier 500, finishing second to Al Unser Jr. by .081 of a second. Tonight he defeated his Green Racing teammate and polesitter Dario Franchitti by 0.2578 of a second for his first win at the 1.5-mile speedway.
"I made sure I saved everything for the last lap," said Kanaan. "The whole 7-Eleven team did a great job. AGR, first and second. Every time this year an AGR car started on the pole, we ended up winning the race and finishing second as well. Great team effort. I have great teammates."
Red Bull Cheever Racing driver Alex Barron came from the 22nd starting position to finish a season-best third.
Sam Hornish Jr. and Adrian Fernandez, who made his fourth IRL IndyCar Series start, rounded out the top-five.
The race was slowed for 37 laps by five cautions. There were 14 lead changes among eight drivers.
The IRL IndyCar Series returns to action in two weeks at Richmond International Raceway.
