Welcome Back Richie

JOLIET, Ill. - Richie Hearn set a new track record of 223.519 mph to win the pole for Sunday's Indy Racing League Delphi Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway.

Hearn was tabbed to drive for injured Team Menard driver Vitor Meira and responded with the lightning-fast lap. It was the veteran's second career IRL pole, the last coming at New Hampshire International Speedway in 1996.

"The test here last week really helped us out because we were able to unload yesterday and the car was fast right out of the box," said Hearn. "It kind of let us work on the real small things that give you that extra half-mile an hour or a 10th-of-a-mile an hour here and there."

Tomas Scheckter was second fast followed by Felipe Giaffone, Kenny Brack and Scott Dixon.

Robbie Buhl, Bryan Herta, Sam Hornish, Jr., Helio Castroneves and Dan Wheldon rounded out the Top 10.

Sunday's third running of the Delphi Indy 300 will take the green flag at 1 p.m. (Central Time).
