Yamaha Sponsors IRL At California

The Indy Racing League’s inaugural race March 24 at California Speedway will be called the Yamaha Indy 400, track and company officials announced Wednesday.

“The excitement for our upcoming Indy Racing League event continues to build, and to add Yamaha as the event title sponsor increases the overall prestige of the weekend,” said Bill Miller, president of California Speedway. “Southern California motorsports fans are in for a great show when the Indy Racing League comes to town.

“We thank Yamaha for their support in coming on board as title sponsor and look forward to an exciting weekend.”

The Yamaha Indy 400 is the third race of the season. It will consist of 200 laps around the 2-mile oval in Fontana, Calif.

Yamaha also sponsors a Superbike Challenge at the track on April 5-7.

The IRL race will be broadcast on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. (ET) March 24.
