Menninga Passes IRNLS Rookie Test

Add Chris Menninga to the list of potential Indy Racing Northern Light Series drivers.

Menninga, a graduate of the Dayton Indy Lights Championship Series, passed his IRNLS rookie test at Kentucky Speedway on Friday. The 26-year-old drove the No. 92 Dallara-Aurora Stan Watlles competed in earlier this year.

“He got right with the program after he warmed it up and settled in,” said Mark Bridges, IRNLS technical manager. “He used his head. He can communicate real well. He can
give feedback on what the car is doing.”

Menninga completed the four-phase rookie test with a top speed of 212.2 mph. As a comparison, Scott Goodyear won the pole for last year’s IRNLS race at the 1.5-mile track with a lap at more than 219 mph.

Like successful IRNLS rookie Felipe Giaffone, Menninga competed in Indy Lights in 1999 and 2000. He was Giaffone’s teammate at Conquest Racing.
