IRNLS Adjusts Texas Results

The on-track action was interesting enough, but after Saturday night’s Casino Magic 500, the off-track developments proved just as compelling.

Indy Racing Northern Light Series officials kept the midnight oil burning as they responded to team protests regarding the finishing order of the 200-lap race.

Monday afternoon IRNLS vice president of operations Brian Barnhart announced that Felipe Giaffone and Billy Boat had been moved forward one position in the results, giving Giaffone a second and Boat a fifth.

"After reviewing timing and scoring data and video footage, we have adjusted the results of the Casino Magic 500,” Barnhart said. “The No. 4 car passed the No. 21 during a caution period, and the No. 11 car also passed the No. 98 car under a caution.

“As a result of two protests filed Saturday night, we have reversed the finishing positions of each of those cars.”

Points leader Sam Hornish Jr., driver of Panther Racing’s No. 4, was originally credited with a second-place finish, and Beechler, driver of A.J. Foyt’s No. 11, was initially placed fifth.

As a result, Hornish’s points lead over Eliseo Salazar is now 30 points at 187 to 157. Giaffone is fourth with 140 points. Boat closed to within two points of fifth-place Buddy Lazier.

Scott Sharp won the race and Lazier finished fourth.
