Hattori Forced To Sit Out PPIR

Shigeaki Hattori had two crashes too many and will be forced to skip today’s Radisson Indy 200 at Pike’s Peak International Raceway, Indy Racing Northern Light Series officials said.

Hattori crashed twice Saturday, first in the second practice session and then again on his second lap of qualifying.

"Shigeaki was not cleared to drive for precautionary reasons," said Dr. Henry Bock, director of medical services for the Indy Racing League. "His body went through two crashes yesterday, and we don't want to risk putting it through another accident today."

Hattori qualified to start seventh. Vertex-Cunningham Racing will not put a replacement driver in the car for today's 200-lap race.

Hattori’s injuries from the crashes are not serious and he will likely return to the car for the June 30 SunTrust Indy Challenge at Richmond International Raceway.
