Miami Twice: Kelley Returns

Homestead-Miami Speedway has been a popular place the past few weeks as Indy Racing Northern Light Series teams prepare for their inaugural appearance at the South Florida oval.

This week, Kelley Racing, Bradley Motorsports and Cunningham Racing made the trip to Homestead’s 1-mile flat oval.

Scott Sharp and Mark Dismore took part in their second testing session at Homestead. Dismore was pleased with the team’s progress.

"Even though we didn't get in much track time on Tuesday, we still managed to run four miles an hour faster than our first test here," said Dismore, who first visited Homestead in December. "Right now, I'd predict the pole for our race will go around the mid- to upper 201s. If it's cool, with no wind, it could go at 203 mph."

On Jan. 18 during his appearance at Homestead, Sharp turned in the fastest unofficial speed at the track with a 200.444 mph lap.

Bradley’s Buzz Calkins turned in a 199.2 mph lap in his Dallara-Aurora on Tuesday. It was his first appearance at Homestead. Cunningham driver Shigeaki Hattori tested his machine, but he’s been at Homestead before. He raced on the oval during his time in the Dayton Indy Lights Championship Series.

The teams were testing in preparation for the inaugural Infiniti Grand Prix of Miami that takes place April 6-8.

On Friday and Saturday of this week, other IRNLS teams will be testing as part of the Test in the West at Phoenix International Raceway. will provide full coverage of the event starting Thursday.
